As a couple, with family or friends during your naturist stay in Corsica at the Domaine de Bagheera, we invite you to discover the ancient city of Aléria.
Aléria and its 8000 years of history
Founded in 565 BC by the Phoenicians, Aleria has been the cradle of several civilizations. Today, it remains the only major testimony of the implantation of the Phoenicians in the 6th century.
Former Greek and Roman colony, capital of the island during the Antiquity, Aléria played a strategic role of defence against foreign invasions. In 1484, the Genoese decided to build the majestic and austere Fort de Matra, which has been the home of the Archaeology Museum of Aleria since 1962.
The archaeological site, described by the writer Prosper Mérimée during his trip to Corsica in the year 1840, has been classified as a historic monument since 1990. A must visit for history buffs. With relics such as the Capitol, the Balneum, the Temple or the Forum, you don't need any more reasons to come.
An important cultural and touristic centre on the eastern plain of Corsica, Aléria is a major tourist attraction where past and present continue to harmoniously intermingle.
